The Peshawar High Court has issued a decisive order preventing the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) from transferring more than 360 major tax cases of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa businesses and industrial units to Islamabad. This ruling protects KP taxpayers from added legal burdens, financial pressure, and needless centralization, ensuring their cases are heard within the province.
Senior lawyer Qazi Ghulam Dastgir played a key role by representing the petitioners and forcefully arguing that FBR’s decision was unlawful, violated constitutional and administrative principles, and imposed severe economic hardship on businesses. He highlighted that industrial units in KP were already struggling due to terrorism, floods, natural disasters, and widespread financial challenges, and shifting cases to Islamabad would further disadvantage them.
The court’s intervention restores fairness, upholds provincial rights, and strengthens confidence within the business community and industrial sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
