Peshawar High Court Blocks Recovery of Inflated Electricity Bills from Textile Mills

The Peshawar High Court has taken decisive action against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), halting the recovery of excessively inflated electricity bills charged to major textile manufacturers. The court ordered the issuance of revised bills in line with earlier government notifications that guaranteed reduced electricity rates for exporters and industrial manufacturers.

Senior lawyers Qazi Ghulam Dastgir and Nazish Muzaffar played a key role in this outcome by representing the petitioners and arguing that PESCO’s increased billing was unlawful, violated government policy, and placed an unjust burden on the industrial sector. Their arguments highlighted serious mismanagement in energy billing, unfair tariff hikes, and disregard of official tax relief measures.

This landmark ruling restores financial stability to the industrial sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and strengthens accountability in the energy supply system.
